Girls’ JV basketball blames rigorous week before break for distraction, fatigue during game against Sac Waldorf

After a 11-30 loss to Sacramento Waldorf on Dec. 2, the JV girls’ basketball team went in expecting a difficult game. And it was: a 16-60 loss for the Cavs.

“Even though we had improved, we still weren’t up to their level,” sophomore Bella Mathisen said.

This was due in part to the girls’ lack of practice for the past few days.

“We were really low energy,” sophomore Chardonnay Needler said. “This week has been brutal; our minds were all on the (upcoming winter) break.”

The Cavs let the Waldorf girls through their defense, allowing their opponents dozens of closeup shots and layups.

“We were all over the place today,” sophomore Emily Hayes said. “We weren’t running plays or making any good shots or passes.”

The JV girls’ next game is Friday, Jan. 13, away against Valley Christian. The time is TBD.
