Cavs soccer team brings home first win of the season

Country Day’s varsity soccer team won its first game of the season on Aug. 25, 4-1 against Forest Lake Christian.

Team captain RJ Vargo scored the first two of the team’s goals. However, sophomore Henry Wilson and seniors Felix Wu and Aaron Monasa were key players.

“A lot of our bench players this season from last year have improved a lot and can now be starters,” Wu said.

The game also displayed how it would be difficult going forward without last year’s seniors.

“We relied on two or three players last year, and now we’re relying on a couple players.” said Varsity Soccer coach George Champagne.

The team had high energy on and off the field, Champagne added.

“They ran to the sidelines, we all jumped up and down and we actually celebrated the goal,” Champagne said about the team’s first goal.

He hopes the team will continue to work on “getting diagonal runs in” and has confidence that the team will continue to win games. The Cavs’ next home game is on Thursday, Sep. 1 at 5 p.m. against Paradise Adventist.
