Sophomore Gabi Alvarado wins Poetry Out Loud elective contest (videos included)

On Nov. 16 sophomores Gabi Alvarado and Brandy Riziki competed in a competition in the Poetry Out Loud elective, taught by drama teacher Brian Frishman, to determine who would represent Country Day at the regional competition on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Judges included librarian Joanne Melinson and English teachers Jane Bauman and Ron Bell. Math teacher Patricia Jacobsen totaled the scores.

Alvarado won, 212-200, and will present “Beginning,” “A Locked House” and a third poem at the regional competition. If she wins at the regional level, Alvarado will move onto the state competition and then to the national competition.
