Piano trio, cellist receive perfect scores at state chamber competition

On May 3-4, the high school piano trio and concert band and two soloists performed at the California State Solo and Ensemble Festival at California State University, Sacramento.

The piano trio — consisting of senior Chardonnay Needler (cello), senior Allison Zhang (violin) and junior Shimin Zhang (piano) — earned a perfect score for playing “Spring” by Astor Piazzolla.

Needler performed the “Sarabande” and “Minuets 1 and 2” from Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Suite in G Major” and received a perfect score as well. Judges wrote her performance was “very beautiful,” “consistently good” and had “lots of personality.”

Senior Monique Lonergan sang “Le Violette” by Alessandro Scarlatti and earned a gold rating.

The concert band won a silver rating for playing “The Marriage of Figaro” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
