“The Great British Baking Show” proves a comforting, homey watch

As a lover of both cake and Netflix, I knew “The Great British Baking Show” would be perfect for the quarantine.

Each episode revolves around three baking challenges, showcasing the amateur bakers’ attention to detail, technical skill and culinary talent. At the end, one competitor is crowned “Star Baker,” while another is eliminated. The final three compete for the title of “Best Amateur Baker” at the end of the season.

Unlike other competitive cooking shows, “The Great British Baking Show” is incredibly genuine. Bakers help each other with problems, comfort each other after a bad round and make sure each other’s towering cakes stand up.

The show is as much about friendship as it is about baking, and it’s the perfect way to settle in for a long, lonely time at home.
