After winning their first set, 25-21, the girls’ volleyball team looked poised to take their first win of the season against the Mira Loma Matadors on Sept. 6.
Unfortunately, like their first game, the momentum shifted in favor of the Matadors in the second set, 16-25.
In the final set the girls were off to a competitive match, 7-9. But the Matadors went on a six-point run to end the game 7-15, win.
“We lost the second set due to a downward momentum shift,” coach Sarah Song said. “They kept their wave up, and that led them to winning the game”
Song said that despite the loss, the team played with heart.
“The team had great energy (with) each other on and off the court,” Song said. “They were communicating positively, encouraging each other and calling for the ball.”
Song said that in order for the team to get better, they need to improve on their defensive rotations.
Sophomore Naomi Turnbull agreed.
“We really need to work on knowing our rotations and communicating,” Turnbull said. “We also need to work on getting the ball and not letting it drop in front of us, which comes down to talking.”
Their next game is Friday, Sept. 8, at home against the Cristo Rey Saints at 5:30 p.m.
