Country Day baseball team strikes out against Leroy Greene

The Country Day baseball team lost its lone home game against Leroy Greene 29-0 at Army Depot Park on April 29.

Some of the most memorable moments from the game included junior shortstop Jacob Chand tracing and catching a foul ball, junior catcher Adam Akins hitting a double and sophomore Derek Taylor’s consistent performance on first base.

“Points wise it was not good, but you could tell how much the team improved in both spirit and skill,” said sophomore outfielder Ishaan Sekhon.

For the second game in a row, Country Day had an inning during which the other team scored zero runs.

“Our team is getting better, but we’re obviously still very inexperienced,” said senior outfielder Ethan Monasa. “In the outfield, we need to make sure we’re getting to the spot quicker so we can make catches and get-outs.”

Assistant coach Christian Scott was highly impressed with the chemistry of the team.

“The team did a great job at maintaining a positive atmosphere,” he said. “Even when training, they were cheering and supporting one another. Their energy never wavered.”

The team’s final game is May 5, at 6:30 p.m. against Buckingham Charter at Vacaville Christian.
