The host Country Day soccer team clinched a playoff berth with a 6-1 victory over Faith Christian on Oct. 11.
Sophomore forward Arjin Claire scored three goals, all in the first half, to help the Cavs take a 5-0 lead.
“It felt great to score a hat trick, and it felt even better to help out the team,” Claire said.
Sophomores Miles Morrow, a defender, and Ethan Monasa, a forward, each added a goal in the first half, and sophomore defender Jordan Lindsay scored in the second half.
Co-coach George Champayne said the team finished (converted scoring opportunities) well.
“Last time, we took 25 shots, and (Faith Christian) beat us 2-0. This game, we finally started finishing our goals,” he said. “One great thing is that winning this game automatically puts us in the playoffs.”
The eight-team Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII playoffs begin Oct. 29 at home sites. The field consists of three teams, including Country Day, from the Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League, three from the Central Valley California League and two from the Northern Pacific Athletic Conference.
The Cavaliers’ next game is Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m. at Country Day against Cristo Rey.
