The host Country Day soccer team lost 2-1 against John Adams Academy on Sept. 23.

Sophomore forward Arjin Claire scored in the middle of the first half, followed by a goal by the John Adams Patriots. Then in the middle of the second half, John Adams scored the winning goal.

“It felt good to score the first goal of the game,” Claire said. “We played really well as a team leading up to that.”

Country Day was missing a few defenders, which “forced some players to play new positions,” according to sophomore defender Ethan Monasa.

Co-coach Matt Vargo said the team needs to work better together on both sides of the field.

“We need to combine the offense and the defense to pass a little bit better,” he said.

The Cavaliers’ next game will be Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 6 p.m. at Cristo Rey.
