The varsity volleyball team lost to the Mira Loma Matadors 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 on Sept. 13 at Country Day.

Each set contained long rallies and alternating points. The Matadors slowly built a 2-1 lead, occasionally pulling ahead with back-to-back points.

Country Day captain and outside hitter Jewel Turner served five straight points to give the Cavs an early lead in the third set.

Coach Jason Kreps said sophomore libero Vanessa Escobar played well.

“Vanessa had some timely defensive plays and well-placed shots,” he said.

Escobar praised Mira Loma.

“They were a good team,” she said. “We were moving our feet, talking and serving great.”

The Cavs’ next game will be at home on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. against Cristo Rey.
