The varsity volleyball team won its home opener against the Sacramento Waldorf Waves 25-23, 25-16, 25-16 on Aug. 29.
Coach Jason Kreps said he was pleased with the team’s energy and enthusiasm.
“We have been doing a tremendous job working together, especially with different skill levels, but we need to work on communication,” Kreps said.
Junior hitter Naomi Cohen said the team improved from last year.
“Our team chemistry is really good, and all of us are close,” Cohen said. “We are having so much fun on the court, which is what matters.”
According to sophomore hitter Vanessa Escobar, senior captain Jewel Turner, an outside hitter, played the best of anyone on the team.
“Jewel was ready to call the ball, even if it wasn’t hers,” Escobar said with a laugh.
The Cavs’ next game is Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 5 p.m., at home against John Adams Academy.
