Senior, two coaches to participate in Optimist Baseball All-Star Game

On Saturday, June 8, senior center fielder Nate Jakobs and the North will play the South in the 48th annual Optimist High School Baseball Small Schools Game.

The game is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Capital Christian High School (9470 Micron Ave.), followed by the Large Schools game. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors (65 and over), $5 for students, $3 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children under 5.

Country Day’s Chris Millsback and Gary Jakobs will be the head coach and an assistant coach, respectively, for the North Small Schools team. According to the Optimist website, the committee selects coaches based on “their experience, coaching interpersonal skills, community outreach and overall character.”

The Optimist games are designed to bring together athletes from the region who plan to play in college.

Jakobs will attend Pitzer College in Claremont and play for Pomona-Pitzer. North Small Schools players also are committed to California State University, Sacramento; Cal State, Chico; University of Nevada, Reno; Saint Mary’s College; UC Santa Barbara; Navy; among others.
