Senior wins long jump in league finals

The track and field team competed in the Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League finals at Encina Preparatory High School on April 30.

Country Day fielded two relay teams and seven athletes in individual events.

The boys 4×100-meter relay team finished second in 47.17 seconds. The team consisted of freshmen Elliot Crowder and Craig Bolman, sophomore Kenyatta Dumisani and junior Charles Thomas.

The boys 4×400 relay placed third in 3 minutes, 52 seconds. Bolman ran the first leg and was followed by junior Chris Wilson, Dumisani and Thomas.

Senior Heidi Johnson won the triple jump at 16 feet, 3 ¾ inches and finished second in the long jump at 36-1.

Johnson said she hasn’t seen significant progress in her jumps but hopes to in the postseason.

Thomas finished second in the 400 in 53.86 seconds and third in the 800 in 2:13. He said both times were personal bests by three seconds.

“I performed well, (but) I could have paced myself to be more efficient,” Thomas said.

Wilson finished ninth in the 1,600 in 5:26.

Junior Maddie Woo threw the shot 18-4. Her placement was unavailable at press time.

Dumisani placed third in the 100, finishing in 11.84 seconds, and Bolman finished fifth in the 400 in 56.47.

Bolman said he was supposed to run the 100 and 200, but due to a software issue he was placed in the 400 instead.

“I was happy with my 400-meter, but I wish I could have run my main events because I would have been more competitive in those,” Bolman said.

Crowder finished the 100 in 12.50 seconds. His placement was unavailable at press time.

Country Day next will compete in the Section Championships on Wednesday, May 8, and Friday, May 10, at Chavez High School in Stockton.
