Procida places third in slalom at Alpine Meadows

Senior team captain Luca Procida placed third of 35 skiers in Country Day’s ski and snowboard meet at Alpine Meadows on Feb. 1.

Prodica had times of 46.70 and 50.55 seconds in the slalom.

Senior Nate Jakobs finished 13th with times of 58.86 and 59.24.

“Alpine Meadows is one of the mountains I ski recreationally the most, and it was fun to race there,” Jakobs said.

Sophomore Colin Usrey was 14th with times of 58.49 seconds and one minute and 0.34 seconds.

Freshman Miles Morrow was unable to compete due to sickness.

Sophomore Ming Zhu, Country Day’s lone snowboarder, placed 27th.

“I am proud that I’m getting more familiar with racing and understanding the race course better,” he said.

Freshman Hailey Fesai placed 12th of 25 girls, finishing in 58.63 seconds and 59.14.

“I am most proud that I raced my first slalom race in years without crashing and tumbling down the hill,” she said.

Sophomore Bri Davies finished 15th, clocking 1:00.44 and 59.40.

Senior Tori Van Vleck placed 19th in 1:13.80 and 1:17.22.

“Everyone did well, and for the next meet (a giant slalom on Feb. 8 at Alpine Meadows), there is only one thing that everyone needs to work on,” coach Jason Kreps said. “And that is being consistent.”

Procida added that he was proud of how the team competed as a whole.
