Date: Jan. 19
Opponent: Valley Christian
Location: Valley Christian
Result: Country Day lost 72-32 to fall to 2-9 overall and 1-7 in league. Valley Christian improved to 18-2 and 8-0.
Country Day scoring: Senior Heidi Johnson 27, sophomore Lindsay Burback 5.
Inside info from point guard Johnson: “This game was tough because we scored 32 points in total, and they had a national player (Bernada Rreshpja, an Albanian who will play at Duquesne in Pittsburgh) who scored 32 points just herself!
“Anna (Fluetsch, sophomore) got hurt at the beginning of the game, so she couldn’t play, which was unfortunate because she is helpful under the basket.
“The other team got lots of rebounds and open shots, which means that we need to move the ball more on offense. I’m happy that we worked hard today even though we played the best team in the league.”
Inside info from small forward Burback: “Our defense was great, but I really wish we would swing the ball around more.
“We got a few steals that led to open shots, but our passes were not the best. This gave the opposing team a few chances to steal the ball from us.”
Comment by coach Latonia Pitts: “We had another loss, and one of our girls got injured in the arm during the second quarter, which was unfortunate.
“We missed some layups and got stuck watching instead of playing the game, but Valley Christian is a good school and very talented, so I’m not too disappointed.”
Next game: Friday, Jan. 25, 6 p.m., at home against Buckingham Charter.
