Short-handed boys basketball team routed by aggressive Valley Christian

Date: Jan. 3

Opponent: Valley Christian

Location: Home

Result: Country Day lost 77-34 to fall to 3-4.

Country Day scoring: Not available.

Inside info from point guard Ted Zhou: “(Valley Christian) subbed out every five minutes, and we had only five guys. (Sophomore power forward Martin Cao) was unable to make it, and I was injured from our last game. (Valley Christian) ran our socks off.

“(They) pressed us from the first few minutes to the last. We just couldn’t break it. We started to (improve) in the second half, but the score difference by then was too big to make up.

“(We) need to improve on rebounding. All the points that (Valley Christian) got were from (offensive) rebounds.

“The last two games were good, especially the game where we outscored (Sierra Academy) by 30 points. However, today was a disaster.”

Comment by coach David Ancrum: “(Valley Christian) was very aggressive and physical. They were (continually) aggressive against our pressure.”

Next game: Saturday, Jan. 5, 7:30 p.m., at home against Sacramento Adventist.
