Freestyle relay team breaks school record, makes Country Day history

Opponents: According to sophomore Rebecca Waterson, because of SCDS’s few swimmers and inability to host meets, the team is not in a league. Instead, they swim in an extra lane and try to qualify for Sections with fast times.

Location: Jesuit High School

Date: March 7

Fun fact: All seven SCDS swimmers qualified for Sections today, and the 200 freestyle relay team – senior Amalie Fackenthal, Waterson, freshman Sydney Turner and freshman Athena Lin – broke the school record and made Country Day history with a time of one minute and 39 seconds.

Inside info from Waterson: “I’m super excited for this season, and I thought everyone did a really good job. High school swim meets are like a big family reunion! I see a lot of my teammates from my club swim team at the high school swim meets.”

Inside info from coach Brian Nabeta: “I am looking forward to stiffer competition as next week’s competition (March 14) has Davis High School – a top 3 Section swim team – coming to race at Jesuit. They should help our swimmers improve on their times (even though Country Day swimmers aren’t competing against Davis).”
