After establishing a commanding lead in the first few minutes of the Sept. 8 game, the JV volleyball girls were shocked to see Cristo Rey High School bounce back, scoring 14 points to Country Day’s eight.

However, the Cavs had already built up enough of a lead, allowing them to win the first set, 25-19.

The second set went similarly, with a 24-16 win for the Cavs.

Yet the girls weren’t expecting to get so many points easily.

“We went into the game a little nervous due to our last few games, but we crushed it,” freshman Hana Lee said. “The team is amazing, though; everyone is always super supportive and encouraging.”

The girls made sure not to repeat their previous match against Mira Loma High School, where they lost after a victory in the first set.

“After winning the first set, we did our best to stay focused, avoiding repeating any mistakes,” Lee said.

Sophomore Alyssa Valverde said the team played well and met all the goals they had set during their practices.

“We communicated with each other (and got to the ball early) by being light on our feet – and had fun,” Valverde said.

The girls will play Foresthill High School on Monday, Sept. 11, home at 5 p.m.
