Sophomore outstrips competition in swim meet at Sac City College

Sophomore Joe Zales lapped all but one of his rival racers (lapping one swimmer nearly three times!) at the meet on April 6 at Sacramento City College.

Only junior Amalie Fackenthal and Zales attended the meet; freshman Rebecca Waterson was unable to drive back from Tahoe due to a storm.

Fackenthal swam a 1:54.75-second 200-yard freestyle and a 57.06-second 100-yard butterfly race.

The meet was only practice for her, Fackenthal said, since her events weren’t ones she will compete in at the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships in May, and she was tired from an earlier morning practice.

Fackenthal said she wasn’t satisfied with her times but knows that her body was exhausted from training.

Zales finished his 200-yard freestyle race in 1:52.28 seconds. His 500-yard freestyle race’s time is currently unavailable.

Coach Tyson Frenn did not reply to an emailed request for a comment on the meet.

The next meet will be at 4 p.m. at Vista del Lago High School on Thursday, April 20.
