Freshman Rebecca Waterson swims in the trials’ 100-yard backstroke race in 1:01.14 seconds.
Freshman Rebecca Waterson earned third overall in her events at the open invitational high-school meet at the Roseville Aquatics Complex on March 31 for trials and April 1 for finals.
Waterson was the only SCDS swimmer to participate in the meet; the rest of the team was away on spring break trips, according to Waterson.
Faraway schools such as San Ramon Valley High School, Clovis High School and Benicia High School participated, a total of 19 girls’ teams.
Since each swimmer can swim in only two events, Waterson participated in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke races.
In trials, Waterson finished at 58.96 seconds for butterfly and 1:01.14 for backstroke. In finals, Waterson swam a 58.02-second butterfly and a 59.62-second backstroke. Overall, Waterson earned third place in both events, and SCDS tied for 12th.

Although the times weren’t her all-time best, they were Waterson’s best this high-school season.
March 31 was especially windy, Waterson said.
“The day was supposed to be warm, but the wind chill made it seem freezing!” Waterson said.
The next meet will be at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 6, at Sacramento City College.
