  • Junior Emma Boersma is our second Octagon photo-of-the-week winner for round two!
This photo, which shows junior Jason Li taking a picture superimposed onto another photo, was taken by just changing some of the cameras settings, according to Boersma.
Our third week of submissions is now open, but pictures from previous weeks are still eligible to win until the end of the competition. Just a reminder that after a six-week period one photo will be chosen by the whole school community and the photographer will be awarded a 25$ gift card. Send submissions to octagon@scdsstudent.org
  • ‘Tis the season for gift making! Two lower schoolers select their ear warmers during the annual holiday gift-making event on Nov. 30. The ear warmers were knitted by head of lower school Christy Vail and sold for $20 each. All proceeds will go to support the Rulindo schools.
  • Junior Maddie Woo is our first Octagon photo-of-the-week winner for round two!
She took this photo of one of her dance friends performing a contemporary piece, blindfolded. Her dance group does “every kind of dance, from hip hop to jazz,” according to Woo.

  • Senior Harrison Moon is our sixth Octagon photo-of-the-week winner! “Senior Bella Mathisen embraces her medically diagnosed obsession with floral consumption and attempts to swallow one whole at the McKinley Rose Garden earlier this summer. Mathisen, who has been fighting this disease for several years, finally decided to take control of her own life and love for roses. ‘Screw it,’ Mathisen said. ‘Roses gonna get eat.’” This round of the photo contest is now closed! The six photos from this round will now be judged by the school community, and the winner will win a $25 gift card! 
Week one of round 2 is now open, but any photos already submitted (even from the previous round) will still be considered.
  • Senior Tori Van Vleck is our fifth Octagon photo-of-the-week winner! 
She took this photo in Cassis, France, during summer vacation.
