Strength over Leroy Greene gives girls’ varsity basketball another win (video included)

Date: Dec. 13

Opponent: Leroy Greene Academy

Score: 49-16

Leading Scorer: Junior Yasmin Gupta (29)

Players of the game (per coach Latonia Pitts): Junior Katia Dahmani and sophomore Heidi Johnson.

“Katia stepped up, shooting more this game than all other games combined this season. Heidi stepped up across the board, putting in hard work throughout the game with rebounds, points, steals and running point (guard) for the game.”

Inside info from players Gupta and sophomore Emily Hayes: “We were a much more experienced and stronger team,” Gupta said. “The other team was confused a lot and wasn’t fast enough. Everyone on (our) team could get past their opponent.”

According to Hayes, Leroy Greene didn’t score its first point until the second quarter.

Unavailable players: Junior Annya Dahmani was out with strep throat, and senior Alexa Mathisen is still not playing because of a hurt ankle. However, JV player Hayes played up for this game and the game on Dec. 12.

Next game: Friday, Dec. 16, against Encina High School at 6 p.m. at home.
