Senior Johann Dias and sophomore Nico Burns were seeded first and second respectively in the league championships, which began on April 25. Now they will face each other in the tournament final.
Dias won his first match, 6-3, 6-1.
He went on to win his semi-final match against Golden Sierra, 6-1, 6-1.
Burns won his first match against Forest Lake, 6-0, 6-0.
In the semi-final round he won in the third set against Golden Sierra, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
“Nico was down in the first set, but was able to right the ship,” coach Jamie Nelson said.
“He was very calm and melodic in his playing style.”
The participants in the final of the singles tournament qualify for sectionals.
Because the final consists of solely Country Day players, Dias and Burns both qualify.
At sectionals Dias and Burns will compete with players in the same division but from different counties outside of Sacramento (teams not included in the Sierra Delta Tennis League).
Playing girls’ singles, sophomore Lily Brown advanced to the semi-finals, where she lost 4-6, 3-6, against Forest Lake.
