First-half recap: The Cavs were down throughout the first half, but at the end a Buckingham defender was red carded for saving a goal with her hand. Buckingham then had to play down one player, and the Cavs were given a penalty kick. Kaufman took the shot and missed, but rebounded the ball and made the shot, leaving the score at the half 1-3.
Turning point: The Cavs gained momentum and caught up to Buckingham with three goals from Kaufman in the second half. LaComb assisted on all three of Kaufman’s goals. In the last few minutes of the game, LaComb scored a goal to bring the score to 5-4. The Cavs held on to win the game.
Special recognition (per LaComb): “(Senior Emma Belliveau) and (freshman Bella Mathisen) were amazing! They really stepped up and were a major contribution to the team, as we were missing many of our starters.”
Missing players: Players also on the Octagon and Medallion staffs are attending a journalism convention in Los Angeles.
Next game: Tuesday, April 26, at home at 4 p.m. against Western Sierra
