Despite improved hitting, baseball boys fall short to Victory Christian

Date: March 17

Opponent: Victory Christian High School

Score: 7-14 (loss for Cavs)

Leading hitters: Freshman Nate Jakobs (1-4, triple), junior Zane Jakobs (1-4, double, 2 walks), senior Jacob Durante (1-3, single), freshman Blake Lincoln (1-2, single)

Inside info from Nate Jakobs: “We made far too many defensive mistakes. As a team, we hit quite well, posting nine runs in seven innings, but the lack of defensive support outweighed our offense. We need to work on catching fly balls in the outfield and being quicker to throw the ball in the infield after receiving it.”

Notable factors: Seniors Max Schmitz and Akilan Murugesan and junior Daniel Hernried couldn’t attend due to their roles in the school play. Director Brian Frishman did not want them to injure themselves.

Next game: Wednesday, March 23, at 4 p.m. against the Buckingham Charter Knights at McAuliffe Field
