Freshman Heidi Johnson placed first in both the high jump and long jump.
Freshman Heidi Johnson was the only member present at the first track and field meet at Foothill High School on March 2.
Before competing, Johnson said that this meet was mostly for practice.
Nevertheless, Johnson placed first in both the long jump (15’ 1½”) and the high jump (5’).
“I had a 17-foot jump, but I just barely scratched,” she said.
After clearing five feet in the high jump, Johnson sustained an injury while trying for a height of five feet, two inches.
“I jumped off my foot funny and felt a pull in my arch,” she said. “I don’t know what happened.
“I decided to play it safe and stop, and I also skipped the 200-meter because of my foot.”
Johnson is currently recuperating.
“I’m pretty sure my foot will be okay, but (my parents and I) thought better to be safe than sorry, especially since it’s so early in the season,” she said.
Fans can cheer on the team at the next meet on Saturday, March 5, at Sacramento State University.
