Junior Natalie Brown closes out on a Valley Christian shooter in the varsity girls’ game, Feb. 2. The Cavs lost, 23-48.

Date: Feb. 2

Opponent: Div. VI Valley Christian (7-0) (According to coach Matt Vargo, Valley Christian is the hardest team in the entire league. They are also two-time section champions.)

Score: 23-48

Leading Scorer: Sophomore Yasmin Gupta (13)

Inside info from sophomore Annya Dahmani: “We honestly didn’t play to the level we should have. This was possibly our worst game this year. A lot of shots just weren’t there; there were over 20 turnovers in only the first half, and we didn’t hurry up our defense until later on.”

Player of the game: Gupta’s 13 points gave the Cavs more than half their points. She added 7 rebounds and 6 steals.

Turning point: The Cavs fell behind in the very beginning of the game due to turnovers and off shooting. Even though in the second half the Cavs finally warmed up, by then it was too late, and the Lions had secured their lead. According to Vargo, the girls didn’t bring their A-game early enough in the game, but kicked up the defense by the time it was too late to seize the victory.

Next game: Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. against Cristo Rey (0-7) at St. Francis
