Ski and snowboard slalom cancelled after winter storm warning

After a 3 p.m. winter storm warning was on Thursday, Jan. 28, the ski and snowboard team’s Jan. 29 slalom race at Boreal was cancelled.

Meteorologists predict winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 and even 100 mph in some areas, according to the National Weather Service alert.

Heavy rain and snow are forecast with Northstar predicted to receive 4-8 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service advises people not to travel and to prepare for power outages. The rain and snow also may cause brittle trees from the drought to fall over, knocking out power lines.

The race has been rescheduled for  Friday, Feb. 19.

The Cavs’ next race will be a giant slalom race on Friday, Feb. 5, at Northstar.
