Varsity girls outscore Sac Adventist by 18 in third quarter

Opponent: Div. VI Sacramento Adventist Academy (1-7) (According to coach Matt Vargo, Sacramento Adventist is a small high school with about 100 students.)

Score: 50-32

Leading scorer: Sophomore Yasmin Gupta (28)

Inside info from sophomore Annya Dahmani: “Country Day hasn’t defeated Sacramento Adventist since 2013. And since this was the first league game, right now, we are first in the league!”

Player of the game: Gupta’s 28 points gave the Cavs more than half their score. She also had 15 rebounds.

Turning point: Although the Cavs had a steady lead throughout, the real turning point was in the third quarter, when the Cavs went on a 20-2 run. At the end of the third quarter, the score had gone from 24-21 to 44-23, allowing the girls to breathe easy in the fourth.

Next game: At home on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 6 p.m. against Forest Lake Christian (5-5)
