Date: Dec. 17
Opponent: Highlands High School Scots (8-3)
Score: 20-43
Q1: 8-13
Q2: 8-25
Q3: 11-38
Q4: 20-43
Leading scorers: Senior Julia Owaidat and sophomore Yasmin Gupta
Inside info from player Julia Owaidat: “It was my fault (that we lost). I take full responsibility. Three-pointers are my area of expertise, and I feel like it’s a confidence issue for me.”
Player of the game (per coach Matt Vargo): “(Sophomore) Annya Dahmani played really well defensively, nabbing five steals.”
Owaidat: “Dahmani had a lot of good steals. Towards the end she started making her layups, something that she had been struggling with this season.”
Vargo: (Gupta had to leave at halftime for the orchestra and choir winter concert.) “We missed (Gupta) for half the game. Highlands was doing really well even before she left, so we knew this was going to be a tough game. It’s good that we played a team like that, even if we lost, because it shows us what we have to work on, (such as) not turning the ball over and rebounds.”
Next game: Monday, Dec. 21, at home against Global Youth
