Junior golfer Ben Felix places first in league match

A member of the golf team placed first on April 20 at a match at Rancho Solano Golf Course.

Junior Ben Felix finished with 48 strokes for nine holes.

“The other team played all right but weren’t that good,” Felix said. “I beat their number-one player by 15 strokes.”

The team itself finished fifth of the six league schools at the match: Buckingham, Valley Christian, Sacramento Adventist, Faith Christian and Freedom Christian.

Although Felix placed first, he wants to improve.

“My drives and fairways are on point,  but my short game needs a little work,” Felix said.

Felix shoots an average of 44, but he said a great score for his age group is 40.

The team struggles to get to practice due to other extracurricular activities. According to Felix, only about half the team shows up to practice.

But Felix said he does.

“I go to every practice because I’m a die-hard golfer,” Felix said.

Junior Manson Tung shot a 59. Junior Jake Sands shot a 53.

“It was definitely one of the prettier courses we played at,” Tung said. “You could see vineyards and mountains. I was doing well until the last three holes. It was windy, so it affected our drives.”

Junior Max Schmitz shot a 60 while sophomore Arvind Krishnan shot a 68.

“I had an off day,” Schmitz said.
