The boys’ basketball team will play their first round of playoffs on Wednesday, Feb. 25, against Faith Christian at home at 7 p.m.
The Cavs are ranked first in the playoff bracket, whereas the Lions are ranked eighth.
Faith Christian has an overall record of 13-15 and a league record of 2-8.
Senior Bailey Carter is Faith Christian’s high scorer, averaging 20.2 points per game.
And at 6 feet 4 inches, senior Taylor Savage is the Lions’ tallest player.
Also at 6 feet 4 inches, freshman Rick Barros III is the Cavs’ tallest player and has the most points per game, 17.2.
The Cavs know they need to be prepared to play the Lions as they face them for the third time.
“Right now we have to go into the game feeling good about ourselves,” Barros said.
“We’ve already beat them twice by (many) points,” said freshman Jayce McCain. “But we still (have) to come out strong because we could have a bad day or they could have the best game of their life.”
The Cavs beat Faith soundly on Jan. 16, 75-37, and also on Feb. 10, 70-55.
“We’re pretty confident that we will make it to championships and win,” McCain said. “But I don’t want to jinx it.”
“Defense and rebounding is key,” coach David Ancrum said. “We have to do a good job on not letting them score.
“Playoffs are different. What you did in the regular season has nothing to do with playoffs.”
The winner will go on to play the winner of Victory Christian (fifth seed) and Turlock Christian (fourth seed), on Feb. 27, in the semifinals.
If the boys beat Faith, the semifinal game will be at SCDS, on Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.
