Freshmen Jayce McCain, Rick Barros III carry boys’ varsity to victory over Faith Christian

Freshman Jayce McCain let the ball release from outside the 3-point line.

It sailed it, garnering cheers from the few SCDS fans in the crowd.

Seconds later, he scored another 3-pointer, driving the crowd wild.

The Cavs beat Faith Christian, 70-55, at their school in Yuba City.

“We were lucky today because we shot well,” McCain said.

“If we didn’t shoot as well, we still would’ve won, but it would’ve been a closer game,” he added.

McCain shot four 3-pointers and a total of 14 points.

However, freshman Rick Barros III was the high scorer with 28 points and three 3-pointers.

“If we had been more focused at the beginning of the game, we would’ve had a bigger win,” Barros said.

Coach Dave Ancrum said the boys have to work on holding the ball for less time before their next game.

“There’s also a tall guy (senior Christian Dethlefs) on the team we gotta watch out for,” he said.

Dethlefs is 6’4”.

The boys’ next game is Thursday, Feb. 12, at Forest Lake Christian at 7:30 p.m.
