Senior Skovran Cunningham put his arms up for a block.
“Foul!” a ref called.
Dejected, Cunningham walked off the court. He fouled out early in the fourth quarter in the Jan. 23 game against Buckingham Charter Magnet High School.
The boys lost 63-66 in double overtime.
“It was super hard to watch from the sideline,” Cunningham said.
Freshman Rick Barros III was unable to play in the game because he had hurt his back.
“The guys worked really hard, especially in the fourth quarter,” he said.
The Cavs were ahead for most of the game, but fell behind once they “let their foot off the accelerator,” as Cunningham put it.
Freshman Jayce McCain said the team fell behind because of missed rebounds and free throws.
McCain missed all six of his free throws. Freshmen B.J. Askew and Cole Johnson each missed two. However, Askew was the high scorer with 26 points (three 3-pointers) and Johnson scored 15.
Junior Serajh Esmail sank a 3-pointer to put the team ahead by one point in the fourth quarter.
Coach Dave Ancrum said the team worked very hard.
“We really need to work on our rebounds before we play them (again),” he said.
