Freshman Bryce Longoria’s 21 points led the JV boys to a 48-40 home victory over Sac Adventist on Jan. 12 .
“Honestly the reason we won was because of Bryce,” freshman Jake Longoria said after the game. “Everyone did contribute a lot to our victory, but I believe if we didn’t have Bryce, we wouldn’t have won.”
Before the game Jake said he knew what the team’s challenges were.
“We need to do a better job rebounding,” Jake said. “We don’t box out well enough yet, and we use too many long rebounds. We’re missing a lot of open opportunities.”
And they did just that.
“Everybody contributed to the win,” freshman Reggie Fan said after the game. “(We) made rebounds, had good passes and made free throws.”
“We started playing better defense in the second half,” Bryce said. “We got better shots because of this. We also had the whole team participating in offense. We also took care of the ball and didn’t have as many turnovers.”
Starters included freshmen Fan, Bryce and Jake Longoria, and Miles Edwards and sophomores Adam Dean and Aidan Cunningham.
Near the end of the game, the score was close, so making free throws was critical.
The team sank 16 of 25.
“When the game got close in the fourth, we were able to hit all of our free throws and close the game out,” Dean said. “We also had guys come off the bench and make a big impact for us.”
The boys’ next away game will be Friday, Jan. 23, against Buckingham High School at 4:30 p.m.
Their next home game is Tuesday, Feb. 3, against Valley Christian at 4:30 p.m.
