Boys’ JV crushes Stone Ridge Christian with just 6 players

The boys’ junior varsity basketball team had only six players in their game against Stone Ridge Christian.

Despite the lack of players that showed up, the team beat Stone Ridge Christian 61-12, at home on Jan. 2.

Freshman Bryce Longoria led the team with a total of 15 points, followed by sophomore Adam Dean with 13.

Freshmen Jake Longoria and Reggie Fan scored 10 points apiece

“I am feeling confident about this game,” Jake said before the game. “(However) we are coming off break, so I’m not sure if we will perform at our highest level of play.”

Starters included Fan and Bryce and sophomores Emil Erickson, Dean and Aidan Cunningham.

“I think we won because we were able to take (Stone Ridge players) off the dribble,” Bryce said. “Our spacing was good, so we could drive to the basket.”

Fan and Dean agreed.

“We played good defense,” Fan said. “(We) made a lot of our layups, and we did a good job rebounding.”

“We won by so much due to our defense,” Dean said. “On offense we were able to spread out the defense then penetrate for easy shots.”

The team had 26 turnovers throughout the game.

Fan had three fouls early in the first quarter, so he had to sit for most of the first half.

“We adjusted to their main defense, and we were able to attack the basket a lot and score inside,” Jake said. “Reggie and I particularly were able to pass the ball inside to Aidan, Emil and Adam.”

The JV team is now 3-0.

The boys’ next home game will be Monday, Jan. 12, against Sacramento Adventist at 3 p.m.
