The boys’ varsity basketball team lost its second game of the season against Hiram Johnson High School on Dec. 30, 72-50.
The team attributes their loss to a lack of “willpower.”
“We just didn’t play hard as hard as a team or individually,” freshman Jayce McCain said. “Once we were down, we lost our will to fight.”
Freshman Rick Barros agreed.
“We gave up,” he said.
“We stopped playing. We could’ve beat (Hiram Johnson) if we worked at 100 percent the whole game.”
Barros scored 17 points, including three 3-pointers. McCain scored 11 points with one 3-pointer.
Despite the loss, coach Dave Ancrum said he is happy for the boys.
“We needed this game,” he said. “It was good for our boys to see guys who play all the time.”
