Boys’ varsity basketball victorious in Redding Christian Tournament

The boys’ varsity basketball team won the two-day Redding Christian Tournament on Dec.13.

The first game, on Dec. 12, was against Global Youth. The Cavs won handily, 66-27.

The boys also beat Dunsmuir, 66-41, in their second game on Dec. 13.

“The first two games were really easy,” freshman Rick Barros said.

The boys won the tournament by beating Redding Christian High School, 56-44, in the third and final game.

“It felt so good to beat them on their home turf,” senior Skovran Cunningham said. “They’ve beaten us so many times before.”

Cunningham was a starter for all three games, as well as Barros and freshmen B.J. Askew, Cole Johnson and Jayce McCain.

The team improved a lot during the tournament, coach Dave Ancrum said.

“They kept their composure under a stressful time,” he added.

McCain agreed.

“Our defense was awesome,” he said. “We were able to cover (Redding Christian’s) best player.”

Cunningham said this year’s team is much stronger than last year’s.

The boys’ next game is at home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. against Woodland Christian.
