The varsity volleyball team efficiently won 3-0 against Cristo Rey on Oct. 15.
In September the girls played Cristo Rey and also won 3-0.
“Last time we didn’t have a very hard time winning,” senior setter Erin Reddy said before the match. “Hopefully, this will be the same.”
This is the first year that Cristo Rey and SCDS have played in the same league, Sacramento Metropolitan.
In the first set, SCDS won, 25-11. Many of the points won by Cristo Rey were on SCDS’s errors.
SCDS won 25-5 in the second set.
In the third set, SCDS ended the match, winning 25-8.
The girls’ knowledge of Cristo Rey’s athletic tendencies during the match contributed to their victory.
The match was played in Cristo Rey’s gym, but the gym had air-conditioning problems and blasted the girls with freezing air.
“It was really, really cold,” freshman Annya Dahmani said. “It was kind of hard adjusting to the cold at first, but after a while we got used to it.”
The match was originally scheduled for Oct. 14, but Cristo Rey was double booked, so the game was moved.
Reddy is the only senior on the team.
“I really wish there were more of us (seniors),” Reddy said. “Newer members of the team usually learn a lot and are motivated by the seniors, but it’s harder to have that when there is only one.”
The girls’ next game will be at Homecoming against Millennium at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.
