Girls’ varsity volleyball easily defeats Cornerstone in three sets

The varsity volleyball team won its first game on Sept. 2 against Cornerstone Christian.

SCDS took the lead in the first set with a score of 25-16.

In the second set, SCDS won again, 25-11.

Cornerstone managed to keep up with SCDS for the first half of the third set, but the Cavs took the win with a score of 25-10.

Last year, the varsity team also kicked off their season with a victory against Cornerstone.

The team has four freshmen: Annya Dahmani, Katia Dahmani, Kyra Petersen and Yasmin Gupta-Ostendorf.

“It’s hard to be a freshman on the team,” Gupta-Ostendorf said. “All of the other girls are a lot more experienced. It helps that the older girls are really nice and polite and help us a lot.”

Sarah Song and Jason Kreps co-coach the girls.

“I think we’re going to have a stellar season,” said Song.

The next game will be Thursday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. at home against Forest Lake.
