Boys’ basketball teams crushed by Faith Christian

The boys’ varsity and JV basketball teams both fell to the Faith Christian Lions in Yuba City on Jan. 17. The scores were 39-58 and 20-46, respectively.

This was the Cavs’ third encounter with Faith Christian this season. The varsity lost the first matchup in the season opener, 38-40, but won the second, 54-48.

Even though both teams have been practicing for the games, the Cavs expected the losses.

“In practice, we’ve been working on ball handling—like moving the ball and and press break—and shots, especially easy ones like free throws,” junior Jaspreet Gill said.

Gill, a varsity player, said that when it came to applying the practiced concepts, the boys just couldn’t pull it off until the second half.

Having only scored 15 points in the first half, the team improved to score 24 in the second.

“We went out with nothing to lose,” Gill said.

As for the JV game, freshman David Boley said the boys played hard and have been working on driving and getting clean passes.

Both teams will play Buckingham Charter at home on Friday, Jan. 24. JV plays at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m.
