The boys’ soccer team has made it to the finals many times. In fact, the Cavs were last year’s Div. V champions. But this year it’s not going to be as easy.
On Nov. 7 the boys’ beat Western Sierra Collegiate Academy, 3-2, in the first round of playoffs at Foskett Regional Park.
But they won in double overtime on a free kick by junior Ethan Ham. And after that narrow victory, they are playing a long-time rival in an away game..
That game, against Forest Lake Christian (12515 Combie Rd.) begins at 3 p.m. today.
When the boys played Forest Lake unofficially earlier in the year, they lost 2-0.
This time junior Dominic Stephen said he was “nervous but confident,” adding, “I think we’ve got a serious chance.”
Coach Matt Vargo said he’s excited instead of nervous.
“I feel great,” he said, although he added that (Forest Lake) has a “really good” center-mid, who scored both goals last time, and a “really good” keeper.
