A perfect finish—soccer finally beats Faith Christian in last home game (slideshow)

For the first time this season, the boys’ soccer team beat Faith Christian. The score was 2-1 at a home game on Oct. 31.

There were three goals for the Cavs, but only two counted because freshman Emil Erickson’s shot went through the net.

Erickson was upset about that because it was a clear shot into the goal. However, the referee missed the goal going in and instead saw the ball rolling behind the net, he said.

Juniors Ethan Ham and George Cvetich scored the other two, both in the second half.

“We outplayed them the last three times, but we couldn’t score,” coach Matt Vargo said. “We have outshot them before—and they were really good shots—but (Faith Christian) just has a really good goalie.”

The team was ecstatic to beat Faith after the last two losses and a tie against them.

The boys are now 7-2-3. Although Vargo does not know whom, where, or exactly when, the Cavs will be playing their first playoff game on Thursday, Nov. 7.
