Coach Dominic Jacubic

Ex-professional player coaches boys’ soccer team

Many students have heard of, or maybe even know, Coach Dom, new assistant soccer coach. But not many know his background or  how he came to SCDS.

Dominic Jacubic, a Polish soccer player, started his career for Chico State’s soccer team as a goalkeeper. After some time in California, the Milwaukee Rampage—a team in the United Soccer League (USL), an outdoor semi-professional soccer league—drafted him.

Jacubic, however, decided to stay at Chico to finish school.

After college Jacubic played a season for the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, Crew.

MLS is the highest level of soccer played  in the USA.

Jacubic then went back to Poland to join RKS Garbarnia Kraków, a team in a Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) sanctioned league.

He later returned to the USL for the Los Angeles Blues as a goalkeeper before retiring from professional soccer.

In 2007, Matt Vargo, boys’ varsity soccer coach, had asked Jacubic to help coach the team’s goalies.

Jacubic became the assistant coach this year, working especially with sophomores Jacob Durante and Brad Petchauer on goalkeeping techniques.
