With dwindling numbers, cross-country team now struggles to make it to state

Members of the boys’ team are stretched thin between cross-country and soccer.

“We haven’t run as a team except for Stanford (the Stanford Cross Country Invitational, Sept. 29),” coach Nick Domich said.

The team has a critical meet, the Sac-Joaquin Subsections, on Saturday, Nov. 3, which will lead up to the Section championships on Saturday, Nov. 10, and the CIF State Meet on Saturday, Nov. 24.

The girls’ team consists of only two members, junior Darby Bosco and sophomore Micaela Bennett-Smith.

Domich says the chances that the boys will get to the state level are “not too good.”

Senior Jacob Frankel, one of the only students to continuously attend practice said, “It is harder for me to push myself without other people there.”

Winfield placed sixth in the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational in Folsom, Oct 13.
