Canned food drive for Dyer-Kelly School amasses more than 3,000 servings; juniors win Golden Can for third year

The annual canned food drive for Dyer-Kelly Elementary School (2236 Edison Ave.) collected 3,208-and-a-half servings, well exceeding Student Council’s goal of 2,017. The food drive is also a competition between the grades. Juniors won the Golden Can with 1941-and-a-half servings, making this the class of 2018’s third consecutive victory in the canned-food drive.

Dyer-Kelly provides students from low-income families meals at school, as well as food to take home for weekends and holidays.

In a high-school meeting on Nov. 30, Student Council president Avi Bhullar announced that Dyer-Kelly is still in need of new or gently used socks, shoes, sweaters and gloves as some students don’t have winter clothes and walk to school in flip flops. Student Council will continue to accept donations until Winter Break.
