The brand-new Smashburger at Loehmann’s Plaza turned out to be a smash for one of teacher Jane Batarseh’s Latin IV classes on Oct. 26.

The class was on their quarterly “toga walk,” during which students walk to Loehmann’s for lunch, when a few of the students noticed that Smashburger had just opened.

Deciding to head in, they were met with a surprise. A Smashburger employee told the eight students that they were among the first 50 people to enter the restaurant. They then each received 52 free milkshakes and a Smashburger souvenir cup!

But there was a further surprise for some of the students in the cups. Randomly distributed through the 50 cups were $100 gift cards to Smashburger, and sophomore Jack Christian, junior Sahej Claire and senior Aidan Cunningham were among the winners.

“This is the best day ever!” Cunningham shouted.
