Orchestra teacher Felecia Keys and nine students will be attending a Yo-Yo Ma concert for free on Tuesday, Dec. 9.  The concert will be held at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium.

Ma is widely recognized as one of the best cellists in the world.

Keys obtained the tickets with the help of a parent.

The parent has children who are attending Jesuit High School and SCDS. Jesuit’s music progran had turned down the tickets, so the parent asked Keys whether she and her students would be interested.

“I immediately accepted the tickets to watch a world-class performer,” said Keys.

The weekend of Thanksgiving, Keys sent out an email containing the exciting information to the other students.

Within minutes, people responded, according to Keys.

“I’m ecstatic to see him play,” junior Serajh Esmail said. “When I first heard about the concert, I jumped at the opportunity.”

Students in Keys’s class are required to attend one concert a semester.

“It’s also a good way for the students to enjoy a good concert and fulfill their requirement,” Keys said.
