Nap Time introduced to high school

Brooke Wells, head of high school, has instituted a new program, called Nap Time, on Wednesdays from 12:20-12:45 p.m. in the gym.

Wells has said that Michelle Myers, head of the P.E. department, will play soft music, turn off the lights and lay mats on the floor of the gym so students can sleep.

The reason, Wells said, is that students often suffer from sleep deprivation; he cited an article on the importance of sleep sent to SCDS faculty by former chemistry teacher  Michael Covey.

However, junior Emma Belliveau believes that Nap Time may be unnecessary.

“I think it’s a cute idea in theory, but I could sleep during lunch anyway if I wanted to,” said Belliveau.

Her comments were echoed by fellow junior Elinor Hilton.

“I would like it better if it were during a long period, (even if) it were (only) once a month. (That) would interest people (more) than (saying something like) ‘go and take a nap during your free time,” Hilton said.
