Calvin Worthington, ‘97, substituted on March 20-21 for Latin teacher Jane Batarseh’s classes while she was in New York City. He is a graduate of Bucknell University.
Q: How has the school changed since you attended?
A: First of all, the exterior is very different. The campus is so much clearer and developed. Also, most of the students walk around with a laptop.
Q: What do you remember from high school?
A: Country Day changed my life more than college or anything prior. It was a real turning point for me and my maturity. I credit Country Day with a lot of what went into making me the man I am today. I found myself here.
Q: How do you plan to be involved with the school in the future?
A: I plan on substituting again. Hopefully, I’ll sign on in the fall for a full-time position if they have something available. I love the place, I love the students and I love the faculty. It’s just like family.
Q: If you could teach any class here, what would it be?
A: If I was given my absolute choice, I’d like to teach physics and an Introduction to Business class.
Q: What would the Intro to Business class focus on?
A: The business class would focus more on having the class actually design a product, manufacture it and sell it all within the period of one semester.
At (Bucknell) that was the first class you took, and what I really liked about it was the practical application. You take it out of the classroom and actually sell the product and keep the books with all the statistics, and at the end you donate the profit to a charity. I think it would be a really cool thing to offer at a high-school level.
